Bullseye & Deadpool Relationship Picspam.

daken + bullseye
Bullseye and Deadpool. They're rivals, contemporaries, respect one another, appreciate each other's sense of humor and find each other funny. They've worked together and have a history. They're not enemies. But they do fight and try to kill each other more often than not, and they agree early on that they are definitely not pals. Still, they like each other. It's complicated?

Spoilers for Deadpool 16, 28, 61 and probably some others, new Deadpool 10, 11 and 12, The Identity Disc, and a couple small spoilers for Dark Avengers. Graphics heavy (duh). This is not an exhaustive accounting of every moment of their relationship, but it's pretty substantial. Lots to read. (Am I doin it wrong?) I suck at brevity.

Some foeyay, a dash of hoyay, a lot of trying to hurt each other - an unusual friendship.

A recent pic of Bullseye. Lester is a sick fuck, but he's grown on me a lot. Mostly due to his interesting relationships (he does not play well with others) and the incredible way he's rendered sometimes.

Photobucket

I love this panel - this whole scene, really, but this frame in particular. Lester looks so lazy, with his feet up on Norman's desk and that knowing expression. How come they have to draw the psychopath all hot?

And our hero. To be fair, he might also qualify as a psychopath, but such a much more fun and playful one. Bullseye makes him look warm and cuddly as a stuffed animal and downright harmless by comparison.

Photobucket

So. Early original series Deadpool. Deadpool's been feeling down and alone for a whole bunch of reasons. They haven't seen each other in a long time, but he calls Bullseye to hang out. Bullseye invites Wade to come join him for a job in Greece, and at the end of the job Bullseye initiates a serious conversation.

One of many references to Bullseye's meds. In a recent book we actually see him take his pill after breakfast one morning. Not sure if it's his regular prescription, but in Dark Reign: Hawkeye he downs a big handful of Clozapine to stop himself hallucinating.

Photobucket

Photobucket

So, here. Decisively not buds or pals, then, because there's no such thing as friends when you're mercs. Bullseye says it, Deadpool grumbles but doesn't disagree. Deadpool is kinda friendless at this point, and you get the sense he really wanted to think of Bullseye as a pal right now, even if he knew deep down he was kidding himself.

Poor Wade.

Photobucket

Photobucket

I love how they call each other "kid" and "rookie." Actually, Deadpool doesn't call Bullseye rookie until later, but still. Nicknames.

Photobucket

Second frame in this panel. He's not saying it in so many words, but it's pretty obvious that Bullseye likes Deadpool and even cares about him a little. How much does Lester care? I do not know. Enough to get together with him and say all this shit, but probably not much.

So why then is he giving Deadpool this life and career advice? Why doesn't he try to cash in on the price on Deadpool's head?

Photobucket

Look at that smile. Look at it!

sparklybee said it best about this last panel: "kind of creepy and kind of cute and maybe even kind of flirty all at the same time."

Photobucket

When next they meet:

Photobucket

Photobucket

Here, Wade says Lester is his friend. But clearly doesn't have high hopes that they're gonna avoid a fight, considering his expression and shoving Ilaney towards the roof ladder to get her out of there.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Deadpool seeking confirmation that they are, in fact, pals, could here be wholly chalked up to his wanting this kind of serious favor from Bullseye.

Considering his displeasure about the touching, Lester isn't in any hurry to pull away. He hears Wade out.

Photobucket

I love Lester's "you've got to be kidding me" face.

Photobucket

"Yes... even as a friend." Deadpool seems to mean it here.

Photobucket

The "don't make me kill you" sentiment, coming from Lester, imo means more than your average "don't make me kill you" threat. Cause Bullseye loves wasting people. He finds it fun and takes it rather seriously, calling himself an artist here and in other places. Behold:

Photobucket

Note the wonderfully evocative look of "siiiigh."

Also, the typo in 'beautiful.'

Photobucket

Skipping panels here and there... not missing much... Deadpool calls Bullseye "rookie" again...

Photobucket

Photobucket

...

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Bullseye looks so happy!

Photobucket

Photobucket

Not a great respecter of women, Bullseye. But he's evil and amoral in so many ways it seems silly to take issue with some dismissive misogyny.

Photobucket

Now they're calling each other 'pal' like every other frame.

And at this point Bullseye pulls the "nobody knows you like I know you, let me remind you who you really are" villain bingo card.

Another typo, this time "Bullseye" is misspelled. One of the editors was obviously drinking heavily on the job.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Deadpool seems pretty confident Bullseye will live.

Later in Deadpool, Wade sorta dies. Enough that there's a funeral. Guess who shows up.

Photobucket

Looking like a GQMF I might add. Note the mutual respect as demonstrated by the hat-tipping, real and imaginary on Deadpool's part.

In The Identity Disc, Deadpool, Bullseye, Sabretooth, Juggernaut, and a couple others get blackmailed by a woman named Valeria Merrick to show up at a warehouse at midnight. Bullseye's already there when Deadpool comes in through the window.

Valeria shows up and further blackmails them into stealing this Identity Disc thingie from A.I.M. for an infamous, urban legend-y crime lord, Tristam Silver. Bullseye says the guy's supposedly over 300 years old and the reason the French Revolution ended up as a bloodbath. He's v Keyser Soze-ish. (Tristam Silver, not Bullseye.)

The Identity Disc is a similarly legendary database with the names, addresses, and private information of all costumed operatives ever.

Photobucket

Gratuitous Bullseye pic:

Photobucket

Photobucket

I like this shot because of the way Bullseye's standing, kinda unnecessarily facing Wade with his body when everyone else is fully turned towards Valeria.

Photobucket

It's like if Starsky and Hutch were unstable mercs...

Deadpool and Bullseye hang around waiting to do their breaking and entering thing. Deadpool's talking about how maybe he should have stayed in school.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Lester's surprisingly patient, and the relaxed way he's drawn suggests he doesn't mind Deadpool's company.

Photobucket

Photobucket

They steal the key.

Photobucket

Wade goes back to meet Valeria and the others alone:

Photobucket

Wade's so trusting XD

They find Bullseye, who confirms he's kinda planning to screw all of them. Not a smart move, but hey.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Bullseye attempts to incapacitate them with two handfuls of toothpicks. He then tries to run, but they kick his ass.

Photobucket

In the car on the way over to A.I.M., Deadpool defends Bullseye. After a fashion.

Photobucket

Photobucket

When next they meet (afaik, unless I'm missing appearances, which is v possible) Bullseye is working for Norman Osbourn while going around costumed as the Avenger Hawkeye. Norman and Deadpool have been going back and forth pissing each other off, so Norman orders Bullseye to go kill Deadpool. (Daken can't, because he has to wash his hair that night, trufax.)

Bullseye, disguised as Hawkeye, finds Deadpool. They fight. Deadpool manages to get Bullseye's mask off and grab his bow, and Bullseye snatches Deadpool's gun.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

It gives me a happy when Deadpool uses his crazy to screw with people.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Again, referencing the shared appreciation for each other's sense of humor.

I love the extraneous/cover art for this baby:

Photobucket

More getting-inside-Bullseye's-head: now Bullseye has Deadpool pretty much where he wants him, which is to say, briefly incapacitated. So what does he do? Kill Deadpool once and for all? Attempt to kill Deadpool once and for all? Nay. Calls a radio show for advice.

Photobucket

Photobucket

So Bullseye likes Deadpool, because Deadpool makes him laugh... and he likes to imagine killing Deadpool, to the point where he's not sure he actually wants to do it because it would be a letdown. Yeah, okay. I'm not judging.

Deadpool wakes up.

Photobucket

So Deadpool stumbles around, gets the arrow out of his head, dons a meat suit.

Photobucket

They fight. Deadpool kicks Bullseye's ass and puts a meathook through his chest. Deadpool seems to like putting sharp things into Bullseye's chest right near his heart.

While badly injured, Bullseye has this quirky dream sequence/fantasy of being a little kid with a little kid version of Deadpool as his friend. They burn down the school and go to knock over a candy store together.

Photobucket

It's quite adorable. Then Lester wakes up in the hospital.

Photobucket

Yes, Deadpool brought him. <3

Photobucket

When he's recovered, and prodded and denigrated by Norman, Bulleye makes a final effort to kill Deadpool, this time by shooting him with an rocket-propelled grenade. He misses. At this point, it seems like Deadpool's had enough of the assassination attempts and he comes after Bullseye with a chainsaw. So Bullseye quickly offers to pay him to go away, pretending that the offer to pay him off is coming from Norman Osbourn. (Which is more or less all Deadpool wanted in the first place since Norman kinda screwed him. Deadpool sent him an invoice and everything, it was pretty amusing.)

It's hard to say, but my personal suspicion is that Wade might actually have killed Lester at this point, or at the v least lopped off a limb. Games can only go on for so long, and I imagine Deadpool maybe getting a little annoyed with Bullseye's repeated attempts to kill him.

Either way, Deadpool accepts the offer. They go to transfer the money to one of Deadpool's offshore accounts together:

Two kinda friends, kinda enemies, with advice, various attempts on each other's lives, and still making each other laugh. I found this sequence completely adorable. I particularly hit the floor at the revelation, however humourous, that Lester likes thinking about killing Deadpool so much he doesn't really want to do it. Their relationship isn't magical and meaningful like Cable and Deadpool's or any pair with a real bond, but it's certainly entertaining. Two psychopathic mercenaries and their not-friendship, one of the most interesting relationships I've seen in the Marvel verse thus far.
